Environmental and Sustainability Policy

BCL-POL-05 · Approved by the Director, 11 October 2026 · Reviewed annually

Purpose

Bacland Limited aims to reduce the environmental effects of its surveying, design, construction, refurbishment, maintenance and repair work, and of the homes it lets. Decisions take account of the existing building, its intended use, safety, project requirements and practical opportunities to reduce waste and resource use.

Design and procurement

  • We consider retaining and repairing sound structure and fabric before replacing it.
  • We order from measured quantities and coordinate deliveries to avoid surplus.
  • We weigh durability, repairability, energy performance and responsible sourcing when choosing materials.
  • We ask for evidence behind environmental product claims rather than relying on marketing.

Site controls

We plan waste segregation and safe storage, and use authorised waste carriers with the required documentation, including for hazardous materials. We control dust, noise, vibration, spills and run-off, and protect drains, neighbours and habitats.

Unexpected contamination or ecological issues are referred to competent specialists.

Energy, travel and water

We plan deliveries and visits to cut unnecessary travel and engine idling, maintain equipment, use efficient lighting and avoid unnecessary water use.

For energy improvements we assess the building and its occupants first, coordinate ventilation and moisture control, and record what was installed and commissioned.

Records and incidents

Each project keeps records of waste quantities and destinations where available, supporting certificates, incidents and corrective actions. Incidents are reported promptly to the Director and, where required, to the client and the relevant authorities.

We do not publish recycling rates, carbon savings or energy rating outcomes without supporting evidence and a clear measurement basis. Clients receive the environmental records agreed in their contract at handover.

Carbon reduction and review

Our Carbon Reduction Plan, prepared in line with Procurement Policy Note 006, was published on 11 October 2026 and sets out our reported emissions, reduction targets and measures. We update it annually.

This policy was approved by the Director on 11 October 2026. Objectives are reviewed annually (next review October 2027) and after any significant incident. We do not hold an environmental management certification.
