Baclands has launched a long-running educational series working through the Approved Documents that support the Building Regulations, one Part at a time, beginning with Approved Document A (Structure).
Each guide takes a single provision and builds it up in 3D, step by step, so the reader can see exactly how the construction goes together. Alongside the model sit the relevant pages of the Approved Document itself, with each clause highlighted and explained in plain language.
The series is written for two audiences at once: experienced builders who want a clear reference, and clients and homeowners who have never set foot on a building site. Every guide is checked against the text of the Approved Document before publication.
The first guide, on strip foundations, is now available. Ten further guides on Approved Document A are in preparation, from cavity walls and lateral restraint to timber floors and steel beams, with the remaining Approved Documents to follow and a companion series of short animated videos planned.
